No joy.. Fantastic grand strategy game in the same vein as the Civilization series and Paradox Interactive games. Lots of replayability. Art is fantastic. The rich history of Ancient Egypt's Old Kingdom period is fascinating and sets this game apart from other strategy games. This is not simply a little gem from an indie developer, it is an impressively deep game.If you love history and strategy gaming, this is a must-buy.. Eh.I dont know what to say its just boring 3/10. The prequel Pre-Dynastic Egypt was a neat little game with a good balance between scripted play and free choice. Because of that good experience, I decided to purchase Egypt: Old Kingdom for some Easter fun. Unfortunately this sequel, despite having been out for some time, isn't finished — and the game cannot be reasonably finished either. With the experience from the prequel, I decided to choose medium difficulty but was never unable to get even a bronze medal from the civil war trial, despite obtaining gold from all the previous trials and having a competitive edge.The game balance is simply not there at all, and I cannot recommend this game even though I would love to. Hopefully the developing team fixes this. The game has been out there for a while already and has a plenty of complaints for bugs. I can live with some, but not with ones that make the game unplayable.. A worthy successor to Predynastic Egypt. If you haven't played that title I recommend picking it first - it's a more compact experience that will get you used to the rules and unusual format of Clarus Victoria's games.In a nutshell, it plays like a Civ mod with a very narrow focus. The starting conditions are mostly the same every time, and the objectives are exactly the same, though you do get a lot more latitude compared to Predynastic Egypt. The game is a lot longer this time around with about 6-7 hours per playthrough. Because of this I would suggest that you play the game on at least the historical difficulty settings. If you struggle at the beginning, which is likely as it's a tough start, start a new game on beginner and play till the first two challenges so you can learn the ropes, then restart on historical. I played through the whole game on beginner and the last hour or two were very tedious and had no challenge, and it was too long for me to want to go back and play it again on the historical settings.Also be careful of the save and load difficulty settings! It doesn't save on exit, only on autosave, and on the toughest setting it deletes the save game when you load. So make sure you play till the next autosave else you'll lose your progress outright.But that's just nitpicking really, it's a great game if you're after a more crafted and historical strategy experience. If you want an infinitely replayable Civ-like then look elsewhere.. I'm finding this game to be a lot of fun. It is "flow resource" oriented as opposed to "transport resource" oriented, meaning you don't wait for a mined resource to arrive at its spot. When a citizen produces food it immediately adds +1 (or whatever) to the total food output, etc.The game is a bit "on rails" as you basically keep up with the historical narrative, but I personally enjoy objective-based gameplay (like Anno 2205) as opposed to straight sandbox stuff.As the map spreads out, the game could use a few more tools to help you optimize resources better, right now it's mostly just a lot of scrolling around to go, "Oh yeah.. there's a better place for this guy now, lemme put him there." Not sure what form that would be implemented in though.The blend of history + gameplay is really enjoyable, and all the little historical notes all over the place are fun. Still haven't beat it yet and I'm already itching to start over again just for fun.8/10 - would proclaim myself a god and rule Egypt again. Been playing for 24 hours...Its kinda boring... Gonna find something more fun. I must say, its pretty good.. wonderful simulation game. yes, it is very hard to top everything, but you often dont need to, especially now sandbox is inevery clarus victoria game gets better and better, i cant wait for the next one..
